Job Description

The Lifesaving Society is a full-service provider of programs, products and services designed to preventdrowning. As Canada's lifeguarding experts, we set the standard for professional lifeguard training and certifyCanada's National Lifeguards. We are currently seeking an individual to support Public Education outreach.The Lifesaving Society offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Hours:
Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Senior Communications Officer
Salary & benefits: Starting salary of $68,364 plus benefits


Responsibilities:

1. Support organization and collaboration among Communications team members to achieve efficiency and consistency across projects and product lines.

2. Contribute to Communications projects supporting Lifesaving Society activity centres by:

  • Tracking the status of Communications projects and tasks.
  • Collecting, reviewing and assessing newsletter and social media content submissions and communication plan requests.
  • Researching, fact-checking, writing, editing and proofreading materials for various print and digital communications and publications.
  • Drafting project briefs to support marketing and communication initiatives for Society products and services.
  • Assisting with public relations: maintaining media lists, drafting media advisories/releases and attending media events.
  • Compiling regular analytics reports.
  • Maintaining a robust social media calendar, assisting in planning campaigns that drive connection with online audiences to improve engagement.
  • Monitoring accounts, community, comments and reviews, and consulting with activity centre experts to respond to customer queries.
  • Supporting the development of multimedia assets including photography, videography, video editing and graphic design.
  • Assisting with website content development and maintenance using Umbraco (CMS) and HTML.
  • Attending Lifesaving Society events (e.g., AGM, sport competitions, media events) as needed.

Required Qualifications

Possession of the following education, skills and experience will enable the successful applicant to perform the primary job functions successfully. All requirements below are essential unless otherwise indicated as an "asset."

  • Three-year post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in communications, journalism, publishing, or business/arts administration.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in communications or associated field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and proven ability to write in various formats - print, web, social.
  • Strong project management, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet target dates, take initiative, and thrive in a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365: SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Basic graphic design skills - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Canva.
  • Basic HTML experience, familiar with website content management systems.
  • Creative thinking and experience with community management and growth.
  • Knowledge of social media analytics and ability to create regular reports.
  • Ability to research concepts and translate them into plain English.
  • Familiarity with the Lifesaving Society and its programs is an asset.
  • Familiarity with traditional print publishing is an asset.
  • Experience with media-monitoring platforms an asset.
  • Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members.
