CPR minimizes the possibility of brain damage by supplying oxygen to the brain, but the heart won't start beating again without defibrillation. The possibility of successful resuscitation declines 7-10% with each minute that passes without defibrillation. After 12 minutes, less than 2-5% of victims will live.
